The move out of the cities and into the suburbs started in the 1960's. The inner cities and other areas were left to decline. Arrested development set into all areas and the urban life style was no longer desirable. This trend continued into the 1980's, but by the early 1990's a move to revitalize cities and urban landscapes had begun. One reason was the price of suburban land made it cost prohibitive to continue to build new housing and another reason was city programs that invited people back into the metropolitan area. One of these successful programs is the BID - Business Improvement District.

Business and commercial property owners along the main corridor of a given area constitute a Business Improvement District. The BID, known in government documents as a NID (Neighborhood Improvement District), is managed by a city development corporation (CDC), a non-profit community development corporation that works to makes an area a better place to live and work. The contribution to the BID helps revitalize the commercial corridor by increasing business activity, improving the neighborhood image, and increasing property ...
... values.

Increasing property values is usually the main concern of any homeowner. Moving into an area that has a BID is a good idea. First it means that people in your area have taken the initiative to start improving the community. Also, because your surroundings are improving, any upgrades to your house will now increase the value even more,.

Saving money on your house renovation goes along with this plan. Why not shop around, go online, or bargain for the best prices for your home improvements? Doing the improvements yourself is a great way to save money. Going online, instead of buying retail is another great idea. If your area is being improved through a BID, more than likely it will mean that you want to have great curb appeal for your house. Because of increased business activity, people will be in your area more, so you want your house to stand out. This means spending more money on outside features of your house, so when you move inside to renovate the important areas, you will need to save some money.

The two most important areas of any house are the kitchen and bathroom. Buying retail kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities is on its way out of style. The ultimate way to save money of these projects is to go online and buy RTA. We have been using a large amount of acronyms in this article (BID, NID, and RTA) but the one you should remember is RTA - Ready to Assemble. These three letters will literally save you thousands of dollars on any kitchen or bathroom project. RTA simply means that the cabinets are ready to assemble. Instead of buying them pre-assembled, you are putting them together. Don't worry; these cabinets are designed for anyone to assemble. You only need a screwdriver and some free time. The cabinets have only one page of directions and are very simple to build.

So now when you are looking for the right area to move into, keep in mind the BID areas. These districts are safer, friendlier, and are constantly moving forward. You now have direction for where to look and by learning the RTA phrase you also have knowledge on how to save on you improvements. Good luck and start saving!
