A car's engine breathes air just as we humans do. And for a similar reason. And the reason is that the air contains oxygen and the oxygen helps to burn the fuel and convert the chemical energy stored in the fuel into a more usable form of energy which is mechanical energy. So how does chemical energy get converted into mechanical energy? Well in that respect our body and the car are not the same. There are no explosions taking place inside us but inside our cars there are small explosions taking place when the car's engine is running. If you have heard a car without a silencer you will know how loud these explosions are.

Now when you burn the car's fuel in an explosion you allow it a very small amount of time to burn. And it is quite possible that all the fuel will not be able to burn in this short time. And which in fact is what happens. And as car manufacturers have got better at making car engines they have been able to reduce the amount of fuel that is left unburnt. That of course is very desirable because reducing the amount of unburnt fuel helps improve the fuel efficiency and the power delivered by the car's engine.

But ...
... beyond a limit decreasing the amount of unburnt fuel is a challenge, after all the time to burn is so small and in that time the flame from the point of ignition must spread round into the entire combustion chamber and burn every little bit of the fuel. A cold air intake though is a great way to decrease the amount of the unburnt fuel. It increases the amount of oxygen available by combustion by reaching cool air to the combustion chamber which is denser and so more air by weight can get into the fixed volume. More oxygen means the ignition flame can spread more rapidly in the combustion chamber and in that short time help burn more fuel. If you like cold air intakes after reading this you should check out other elegant products such as a cat back exhaust. You can see the latest car aftermarket products at www.ilovebodykits.com.
