Devil Diver may not have been a winner as a three year old, the most important season for any thoroughbred’s racing career but he sure made a remarkable presence in the thoroughbred racing arena with his exemplary performance as an older horse.

During his three seasons as an older thoroughbred, he earned himself the honour of being the only horse to have won the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap thrice, a record no horse has accomplished. His true racing form emerged when he won the Whitney and Wilson Stakes, Manhattan Stakes and the Metropolitan. The 1945 season witnessed the older Devil Diver never finish any less than second in his five starts of which he won three.
