A decade back when we had a member of the family reached an aged and it was getting difficult for other members to take care of him they would start looking for a retirement home. Previously what we assumed of retirement homes was more like a nursing home. Where you have a nurse taking care of an older person, let’s say your grandmother or grandfather and they could walk around a bit and chit chat when they were in their goo days.

But with the passage of time, in this decade, the term retirement homes have been replaced by independent living, which is completely different than retirement homes.

We are no longer living in the ages where a library and a garden with a deck of cards will serve the aged group. It is their time to enjoy life and have everything they want. They are the ones who technically brought in new culture and they deserve all of it. You can expect them to sit around and play shuffle board all day.

The best example of the independent living houses facilities and activities is the wireless connection that is offered. Social media is a great way of spending time and keep yourself entertained. Many retirement homes now offer classes on how to use social media, how to create Facebook accounts and fan pages. Moreover they have competitions on who gets more fans in the least time, when it comes to twitter, the person with more number of followers win. So if you think your grandparents will be along a group on wheelchairs who are taken every weekend to go to a museum, a new library or maybe a seventh grade sports day, this is so not happening anymore.

The best way to find out more on independent living is to search it online. You can not only find the independent houses nearby your house but also the various facilities they offer. Don’t cling on to the first option you get, there are plenty of them out there with something new. Do a good analyzes and then consider your options.
