Correctly Inflated Tyres Minimise Wear & Improve Fuel Mileage
Gas prices are one of our daily concerns, sometimes these drop by a few cents and later on spike to all time highs and the worst part is that the consumer (you and I) do not have any control over these prices. It is a widely known fact that any market is driven by demand and supply, and in most cases the higher the prices are set for a certain good the lower the demand will be, this doesn't apply to monopolies though; for all other markets it does, the only problem is that transportation and gas utilization has become an essential part of our lives, just as essential as food, water and shelter. People living in small towns do not feel such dependency to fuel, however people living in bigger cities rely heavily on transportation because their home is far away from the work place.
Without transportation (car) there is no way to get to work and if we don't work our cash flow is interrupted, if this were to happen we would find ourselves in a serious predicament, this is where the fuel problem and the demand become constant, as long as we have the need to earn money through work, there will always be a demand for fuel, it ...
... is inevitable.
Understanding the scenario described above we conclude that we must learn how to save money on fuel by calibrating our vehicles so that every gallon of gas gives us better mileage. There are several adjustments you can make to your car in order to increase your mileage per gallon of fuel, however one of the commonly neglected parts are the tyres.
Old tyres which have lost their traction or are not properly inflated tend to decrease the rolling resistance which translates to a bigger demand for engine power in order to keep the tyres moving and since the engine relies on fuel to generate power the expense will increase. Fuel efficient tyres are those which are properly inflated and are able to keep good traction.
Properly inflated tyres can improve your gas mileage by 3.3%, tyre pressure is directly affected by weather conditions. During the summer season the gas inside your tires expands after you have been driving around so if you take your tire gauge to calculate the PSI you will most likely get an incorrect reading, it is important to let them cool down for a couple of hours in order to get a good reading; during the winter season the inverse happens. No matter what type of tyres you have, if they are not properly inflated your fuel efficiency will undoubtedly decrease which translates in a money wasted.
