Salary Determines Company Recruitment Method
Robert Walters PLC (LSE: RWA), Japan’s leading international recruitment consultancy, recently surveyed human resources directors and executives revealing that sourcing qualified candidates remains the primary challenge for HR departments and the expected salary for new positions determines which method of recruitment a company will use to attract potential employees.
Conducted amongst human resource directors, executives and managers across Japan, the HR survey found that the main challenge facing human resource professionals in 2011 will be the ability to attract, source and retain qualified, experienced staff (47%). 53% of the respondents also felt that this was their main staffing difficulty last year.
Contingency-based recruitment firms were by far the most popular option for sourcing candidates, with HR departments using these firms across all levels of seniority. ¥9M to ¥12M roles in particular relied heavily on contingency searches (66%). In order to secure top candidates, more firms turned online to source junior-level positions below ¥8M a year (23%). While the higher salaried senior positions, ...
... particularly in the ¥13M+ a year range, tended to include retained searches (39%) and referrals (13%).
How do companies find employees in your salary range?
David Swan, Managing Director of Robert Walters Japan commented: “More and more companies are finding that the availability of top-calibre candidates on the market has diminished following the strong hiring we witnessed in 2010. While online job postings will still be used in-house for mainly junior-level roles due to sheer applicant volumes, by and large many companies continue to rely on the experience of recruitment firms such as Robert Walters, to help them source the most appropriate candidate for each position.”
