When it comes to age, some say you don't get older...you get wiser. This is true in every aspect including skin care. Most times it's not until we start to age that we take notice of our skin and the proper way to care for it. Unfortunately, in some cases, because of lack of care when we're younger, we're often left with skin that looks at least ten years older than our actual age.

Even in skin care, prevention is still the best cure. Taking care of your skin at a young age will prevent you from working overtime trying to preserve it when you're older. Taking a few minutes out of your day to tend to your skin care needs is a routine that should start from a very young age. Teaching young girls this habit will pay off tremendously when they're older.

The Sooner The Better
We first start teaching children about taking care of their skin when we introduce them to the importance of washing their face and hands. This practice should continue into adulthood and become a part of their daily routine. Having clean skin is vital when it comes to skin conditions such as acne and blemishes. The tips below should become ...
... a part of your daily routine:

Wash your face at least twice a day. Once in the morning and again in the evening. When washing your face make sure you're using a good gentle cleanser. Softly massage the cleanser into the skin to help remove the dirt and grime that accumulates over the day. It's important to look for products that's specific to your skin type and need. The last thing you want is a cleanser that will irritate your skin.

Using sunscreen is essential and is a practice that you should continue throughout life. It's important for children, who are often outside all day, to use sunscreen on the face and body. Doing this will prevent the child from getting sunburn. Applying sunscreen should become a part of your daily routine when your skin is exposed. If you have fair or sensitive skin then using sunscreen is definitely a must in order to avoid other skin problems from too much sun exposure.

Very little makeup is all it takes for teenagers who's pores are easily clogged. This often leads to skin problems such as acne and blemishes. Harsh chemicals that are found in some makeup products can be especially dangerous to those with sensitive skin. Because of this it's important to know what type of makeup is being used and to remember that only a small amount should be applied daily. Learn to read labels and look for makeup that's noncomedogenic. If your skin is sensitive and prone to acne, the noncomedogenic may not help very much.

Avoid sun tanning booths due to health hazards that can have a lasting effect on your skin later in life. The major scare from sun tanning booths is skin cancer. Believe it or not, using the booths is more dangerous than being in the sun without sunscreen.

Shampoo your hair at least two or three times a week. Just like your skin, your hair follicles can also get clogged and cause blemishes. This happens when the hair is constantly falling in your face. It's a good idea to keep your hair pulled back and out of your face as much as possible.

Sensitive or Acne prone skin needs to be treated with special skin cleansers. For those with oily skin then an astringent and toner is best to keep acne under control. Many people make the mistake of wearing a lot of makeup in order to cover up blemishes. When the skin is clean and free of cosmetics it will heal more easily. You should also never squeeze a pimple. Squeezing it could lead to scarring which will be there the rest of your life. If over the counter cleansers are not working, then it's time to seek professional help and schedule an appointment with a dermatologist.

Developing a daily routine early in life and sticking with it will definitely pay off as you age. Not only will your skin look healthier and more radiant, but it'll also look years younger. Aging gracefully is a great reward for taking care of your skin.
