Cold Sore- Home Cold Sore Cures
Cold sores, or to give them another name, fever blisters, quite often appear after a cold, flu or fever, which I suppose suggests why they are called such. But, in reality cold sores are not restricted to just these conditions, as they are just as likely to occur if you are feeling run down, stressed or just plain fatigued. But, the one thing that is not a variable of when a cold sore strikes is that you have to have the virus in the first place.
The cold sore virus, which is Herpes Simplex Type 1 or 2, lies dormant within the body, but then when certain conditions occur such as say stress or fever, the virus will break out. When the virus breaks out that is when you will get a cold sore, but what does that entail?
Well, basically a cold sore will occur as a tiny red blisters filled with fluid. These blisters, as well as being embarrassing, can be extremely painful, and last up to anywhere as long as two weeks or so. And one thing to really be aware of is that this virus is highly contagious, so please be careful if you have an outbreak
So, what should you do if you or someone you care about develops a ...
... cold sore? Well the good news is that some things that you can do to halt the cold sore are very simple and can be applied straight away. The first home technique that comes to mind in this case is applying an ice cube to the affected area. Not only will this help by taking away the pain of the cold sore, but it will also assist in stopping the cold sore developing further.
Another home cure that can be used against cold sores is using a used tea bag. Now I know that sounds hard to believe, but tea bags contain a substance called tannic acid, and this is believed to have some anti-viral properties, which could in fact help with the sore. The way I would suggest to use a tea bag, or ice cube would be to press it against the sore for about half an hour or so. It is believed if you do this then a cold sore can vanish within a week.
As you are probably aware, diet can play an important part in your health and well being. Now I am not going to suggest that you can eat certain foods and be free of the cold sore virus, because unfortunately, once you have the virus you have it for life, however if you are careful with certain foods and drink it can make a difference. For instance, it is recommended that you reduce your salt intake and also food with a high acidity. Also, it would be wise to drink less caffeine, as well as foods containing arginine, which is an amino acid. Things you should supplement with or add to your diet are foods high in vitamin B12 and possibly vitamin C
