It is not especially difficult but if you are not used to the experience then it can be a little daunting. In most cases, drivers find the number one problem to be adjusting to the additional weight of the trailer and how best to tow it with a new vehicle.

So if this sounds familiar and you are going on a trip, then here are 9 tips to keep in mind to make sure you have a safe trip in your Honda and feel a bit more confident about driving with a trailer, as generated by www.motorleasing.com.

1) Firstly, you need to check the manual. Most caravans or trailers have a manual or maybe just a safety label on the inside that will tell you what class of vehicle you need to tow the trailer safely. At the same time you should check the Honda manual because you don't want to overload your Honda's engine.

2) Next, check to see if the trailer has a hitch package. This is basically a facility to attach your car batter to your camper or trailer electronic. This system is a must have feature as it provides the electricity to the lights on the trailer, which lets other drivers know that you are on the road.

3) Test ...
... your view as you want to make sure it is not restricted. This might involve extenders that attach to your wing mirrors giving you a better view of your camper and also allow you to have a view of any vehicles that may be driving at the side or even behind you. The last thing you want to do is crash into a car that is trying to overtake you.

4) Before you set off make sure that you inspect the trailer. This should involve an inspection of where the car attached to the trailer. This should include: checking the pressure of tyres, making sure hitch wiring is long enough for the trailer to make turns, connecting the stabilizer and equalizer, making sure the camper or trailer is balanced and place the trailer tongue into the correct position.

5) Make sure all your belongings are secure even before you start the engine. You should do this as you don't want to arrive at your destination and be surprised to find all your holiday gear is broken and in a thousand pieces.

6) When going down a hill ensure you don't go fast. Put your gear stick into a lower gear and then slowly drive down the decline, this is the only real way to deal with hills and inclines.

7) During reversing you need to be patient and be extra careful. When turning a corner the subtlest of moves on the wheel can damage the caravan or camper and destroy the tow bar, making it unusable.

8) You need to change your driving style to avoid tight and abrupt turns. Your driving really needs to be subtle and fluid and steering wheels movements need to occur as early as possible, by doing this it will help to make sure you remain safe during your trip.

9) Lastly, most Hondas should be appropriate for towing but if you have concerns then perhaps you should think about hiring a newer Honda instead. For example, I recently found a Honda leasing deal from www.motorleasing.com that was more appropriate for my road trip.

If you decide to follow this advice then hopefully you should have a really enjoyable time during your next journey, irrespective of the final destination.
