Srisailam – More Than A Religious Site

Srisailam is a beautiful holy town or Jyothirlingam (Hindu shrine to Lord Shiva) nestled in the Nallamala Hills of Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh. The main attraction of Srisailam, such to say, is the Bhramaramba Mallikarjunaswamy Temple dedicated to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy, said to be one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Srisailam apart from its religious significance is also the ideal holiday for nature lovers and also wild life enthusiasts, in fact the region boasts of being the largest Tiger reserve in India covering a total area of 3568 square kilometer. Apart from that a trip to the Akkamahadevi Caves is sure to tickle every adventure enthusiasts. To get to this cave travelers have to first head to Patala Ganga by means of ropeway or a boat ride after that another hour long boat ride follows, after which a short walk is needed to finally reach the cave, although the cave is just as any other cave, however the fun lies in the journey and not the end destination.
Other tourist attractions of Srisailam are Patala Ganga, Lingala Gattu, Ista Srisailam-Nagarjuna Sagar Tiger Reserve, Chatrapati Shivaji Spurti Kendram, Srisailam Sikharam, Chenchu Lakshmi Museum, Sakshi Ganapati and the Srisailam Dam. The Srisailam Dam is also the best place to spot variety of crocodiles.
Being a small town the region offers plenty of good quality budget hotels in Srisalam, number of which are also government recognized with fixed rates. Apart from the peak season when all the hotels tend to get easily fully occupied there is no such need for advance bookings in hotels.
The best time to visit Srisailam is from the months of November to March and the best possible method to easily reach Srisailam is by means of the various government and privately operated buses from Hyderabad which leaves after every half an hour.
