7 Simple Tweaks To Generate Organic Traffic – Free!

In a recent article, we discussed a few reasons why organic traffic is important for your website.
Today, I’d like to show you a few simple changes you can make to start reaping the benefits of this free form of traffic.
Before we get into the specifics, one potential change that might need to be made, is your mindset. Most people assume that every aspect of search engine optimization (SEO) requires some sort of technical super powers.
If that sounds like you, then rest assured: you can take the information below and use it effectively—starting today—with even limited technical skills.
With that in mind, here are…
7 Website Tweaks for Generating Organic Traffic
#1 – Proper Keyword Research
This is the foundation for a successful SEO campaign…
Aside from using tools, such as Google’s keyword tool, it’s also a good idea to think like your potential visitors.
If you were searching for your product, business or service, how would you type that request in the search engines?
Thinking this way will give you a great starting point and ...
... provide some direction when using tools for further research.
Not to mention…
Once you do the actual search, you’ll be able to see what sites are currently holding the top positions in the search engines.
When generating organic traffic to your site, this is extremely valuable information. Take note of these top-ranking sites and specific details, such as:
- Page rank…
- Site layout…
- Additional keywords (found by right-clicking and viewing the page’s source code)…
- formatting techniques…
- Amount of competing pages…
… Anything useful to model your site around.
#2 – Relevant, Enticing Title Tag
Consider your title tag the “headline” potential visitors will see in the search engine results. It is the very first description ‘element’ that will be read.
Don’t make the mistake of wasting this valuable space with something boring like repeating your domain name…or some other vague text.
Instead, write something that will target a specific group of people that are interested in what your site is based around.
If you’re going to go through the trouble of generating organic traffic, it’s critical that you do everything you can to get browsers to click through to YOUR page.
Common sense, but many take it for granted…
#3 – Take It outside the Home Page
Technically, your home page is the “starting point” of your website.
From an SEO standpoint, every page is a potential doorway to your site. It’s impossible for your home page to have a majority of your targeted keywords.
Any page of your site can generate a massive amount of traffic, as long as you optimize them properly.
#4 – Putting Your Keyword(s) In an H1 Tag
The H1 tag is simple the first headline tag that appears within the content of your page(s).
If you’re planning to target several keywords (as you should), try not to overdo it and instead put at least your main keyword in your H1 tag.
#5 – Meta Tags and Keyword Tags
Speaking of tags, remember these other important elements…
Keyword tags aren’t as powerful these days, so it’s not necessary to stress over it too much. Just use the most relevant phrases/words and separate them with commas.
Meta tags/descriptions, on the other hand, are very important.
When your site gets indexed and appears in the search engines, your meta description is what appears under whatever you made your title tag.
Not only does it give users a brief summary of what that page contains… …it also allows search engines to compare it with the actual content of your page.
Use one or two sentences, include at least your main keyword and make it as enticing (but relevant) as possible.
#6 – A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words + 1
No doubt you’ve probably run into Google’s images section before…
What makes specific images appear in search results is the “alt description tags” used to describe them.
Since search engines can’t actually see images on your website, adding your keyword to an image’s alt tag let’s them (search engines) see how relevant each image is to your pages.
#7 – Social Bookmarks
Want to make your content go viral and build contextual links at the same time? Social bookmarking is your answer…
Be sure that every page on your site can be shared and bookmarked by visitors.
Additional Tricks for Generating Organic Traffic
- When you upload any kind of file, make sure the file’s name contains relevant keywords…
- Include your keyword within the first paragraph of text. Bonus points if you can also use it within the first couple hundred words with some additional formatting (bold/italic/etc)…
- Use subheads to break up text. When doing so, it’s best to wrap each subhead in a descending Htag (H1, then H2, H3, etc)…
- Utilize RSS feeds. This should be mandatory for any part of your site that’s updated on a regular basis…
- Use internal links. If you look at the very first sentence of this article, you’ll see an example of an internal link.
