Consumers should be concerned about their cell phone security. Kryptos can assist with cell phone security by encrypting voice communications.

The latest in Smartphone security news comes from the Taiwanese cell phone developers, "HTC." The enterprise is investigating a security flaw that could leave customers vulnerable to personal information being exposed. This has been an unfortunate reality with their GPS locations and email addresses becoming readily available to anyone online.

The affected HTC models include the EVO 3D, EVO 4G, Thunderbolt and possibly, the Sensation range. HTC confirmed that it intends to investigate the security flaw as quickly as possible.

Although the problem will be an easy patch, sensitive data is at risk as I write this. It's easy to gain access to the Smartphone user's personal information by asking the user for permission to access the Internet. This is a common feature of mobile apps such as games, which many Smartphone users are already familiar with seeing, after downloads. The app was given access to a file named, "HtcLoggers.apk" containing several pieces of personal ...
... information, including: email addresses, recent GPS locations, phone numbers and SMS data.

For HTC users, all of us at Kryptos hope this issue is resolved soon.

In Windows Smartphone security news, The Windows phone, "Mango" has a new update that will finally put an end to the controversial location gathering function that has been set to, "always on."

One of the Window's developers, Rafael Rivera revealed that Microsoft's operating system was previously gathering data on Windows Phone users without asking for their permission. Rivera has since gone through the new Windows Phone 7.5 update and confirmed that location data would not be stored any longer. This hints that the system was a bug, not a deliberate function by Microsoft.

Tips from Steve Carnes to Secure Cellular Communications

In a world of digital invasion, privacy should be of utmost concern. In between cell phone companies trying to take personal data for their own product development, and the same companies accidentally exposing their customers with data leaks, consumers should be vigilant by protecting as much of their privacy as they are able.

Voice communications are especially vulnerable to third party access. It's so easy that a teenager could do it but it's not the teens that we should be concerned about. Protecting voice communications ensures the prevention of:

• Identity Theft
• Corporate Espionage
• Kidnappings and other Targeted Crimes
• Terrorist Activities
That's why Kryptos was created. It provides Smartphone users with military grade 256 bit AES to encrypt voice communications and 2048 bit RSA key exchange. With peer-to-peer capabilities, business partners can communicate freely, parents can tell their school-aged children where they hid the spare key, and college students don't have to worry about strangers coming to meet them at their favorite pub. It's all about safety and security.

The fact is, your cell phone provider won't guarantee the safety of data, and may even be taking it themselves. It's your responsibility to secure your communications.
