You most likely will move at least once in your life. Moving can be difficult if you have lots of things to move. This short guide can help you figure out when you should do the moving yourself and when to hire Brooklyn Movers.

Pack it or Sell it

Moving costs money - whether or not you do it yourself or hire movers. Brooklyn and other heavily populated areas can be particularly hard when moving. The first choice you have to make is what you intend to keep and what you can do without.

Family heirlooms, pictures, anything you want to keep will take effort to transfer. Lots of people leave some items behind such as beds since it usually is more expensive to transfer them than to buy a new one. If you choose to leave items behind see if you can have a garage sale first. Alternatively, you may contact the Salvation Army or places that will pay you a bit for your leave behinds.

When you should Hire a Truck (Movers not included)

Unless you are made of money, you'll likely do some of the moving yourself. Ask friends to help you. You can hire a big truck (you don't need a special license) to fit large ...
... valuables in like a piano. Treat your friends out to a good dinner with drinks- it's proper etiquette.

Hire Movers for big Items (Truck included)

If you cannot get anybody to help you move large items, then you should hire Brooklyn Movers. Typical things to move are large TVs, pianos, expensive couches & beds. Your cost analysis should weigh these items against the price of buying a new one with delivery charges to your new house. Clearly, the less costly choice is better - yet this can be used as an excuse (to your partner) to upgrade your television.

Apartments in NY can be hard to move into. Good if your apartment building has a freight elevator. Some don't and you may actually have to haul large items through cramped hallways and the dreaded cramped and angled stairways. Some buildings have moving in-out fees and may make it hard if you didn't settled your association dues.

Homeowners should calculate if their door is large enough. Keep in mind some furniture was assembled inside your home because it would be too difficult to carry completely. Check if you've still got the manual so you can disassemble bigger furniture like cabinets. Older furniture is usually heavier than modern ones.

DIY Moving

Doing the moving yourself still costs money. Expenses to consider are gas money and parking fees in the city (if you have no personal parking). The further you intend to transfer the more likely you will hire a truck or mover. Moving to a different state will probably make you give up all your large items.

Your time is worth money. If your 3 days pay is more than hiring movers then hire. The smaller the car the more trips, this is where a gas guzzling pickups are handy. Remember it will take time to pack, checklist, and drive slowly back and forth with traffic included.

Materials for DIY

The things you must pack are small items which fit into a box. The box should fit in with your vehicles backseat and/or trunk. The materials you'll need are boxes, packing tape, boxes, scissors, thick wrapping paper, cable twisters, and a marker. Extra items are a trolley and plastic containers.

Pack Carefully

Fragile items like ceramic statues must be covered with paper. Books and papers go below a box. Too much paper is heavy even for a body builder so take care of that. Electronics must be wrapped in paper. PC monitors should get put on the floor of your car. Use cable twister for arranging wires so you won't trip on them!

Possessions like jewelry should never be left unattended. Put them in a backpack along with your wallet and cell phone. Carry them all the time. If you're asthmatic, contemplate storing your inhaler in your pocket as well. Moving can get dusty.

Drive slowly and safely.
