Wayanad, an idyllic hill station turned popular tourist destination is situated in the north western region of Kerala. With the least amount of population, this hill district beholds the beauty of nature in the glory of silence. Blessed with rich flora and fauna, Velankanni stands as a proud natural beauty. It holds a magical landscape along with the lofty ridges, tropical forests and waterfalls. All these together make Wayanad sightseeing a brilliant experience for the tourists. Wayanad hosts a number of festivals carrying a great influence of the Kerala culture and tradition. The major festivals of Wayanad are: Vishu, Onam, Asthami Rohini, Easter, Christmas and Bakri Id.

Vishu, the main Wayanad festival is celebrated in the month of April and as it is considered as the first day of New Year, Vishu is celebrated with great fervor and delight. Onam, a ten day festival is celebrated as a tribute to the glory of virtues over vices. Asthami Rohini is a Wayanad festival that celebrates the birthday of Lord Krishna. On the other hand, Easter and Christmas are celebrated with great glory among the natives and mainly the Christians. Bakri id is a sacred festival of Muslims and a part of major Wayanad culture. Other important festivals of Wayanad are: Karthigai, and Mahashivratri. Thus, a visit to Wayanad during festival allows tourists to explore the beauty of the land’s cultural heritage along with natural scenic beauty.
