Rameshwaram, the town beholding the great history of Ramayana in its bosom is a small town in the district of Ramanthapuram of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the four Dhams of India and thus is a very sacred place for the Indians. The town is situated on the Pamban Island that is 50 km away from Sri Lanka’s Mannar Island. The name signifies its relation with the great era of Lord Rama and this bondage gives the whole place a holy and divine feel. With a mythological significance and great cultural heritage, Rameshwaram has outshined as one of the popular sightseeing places and not just a religious pilgrimage. The cravings and architecture of temples and monuments situated all over this Holy town is a sign of great artistry.

Other major festivals of Rameshwaram are: Masi Shivratri: the festival dedicated to Lord Shiva and celebrated during the month of February, Mahalaya Amavasai: the last day of Mahalaya Paksham during the month of September or October, Thai Amavsay and Thirukalyanam. All these Rameshwaram festivals highlight the tradition and cultural glory of this beautiful temple town. Thus, a visit to Rameshwaram during festival enhances one’s trip to the land with rich cultural embodiment along with natural richness.
