In the past, recycling business waste for small businesses was difficult. That’s because there just weren’t the resources out there for small to medium sized companies.
In the UK domestic recycling and large scale recycling facilities have been in place for a long time, but the middle of the market – small and medium business – was not so well catered for.
However, the government recently announced a new drive to encourage more small companies to recycle their waste. New recommendations have been brought in which ask local authorities to set targets for the amount of recycling they carry out in their borough.
This includes all types of waste, so business recycling is an important part of this. One of the initiatives that the government is encouraging is making recycling easier to access for small and medium companies. In some cases this means that small businesses can have access to domestic recycling facilities.
In other cases this means providing more large bins and skips and carrying out more regular collections on these.
The government expects that any company owners know what the criteria ...
... for business recycling is and adhere to it. If businesses are found lacking in the recycling department it can lead to heavy fines. In the case of hazardous waste the improper disposal of dangerous substances can even lead to criminal convictions for business owners.
As there appear to be a lot of different rules and contradictions going on in terms of business recycling one of the best ways that businesses can make sure they are getting it right is by employing the services of waste management companies. A waste management company will be able to assess your business from a professional standpoint and ensure that all your business recycling requirements are met.
In addition they will be able to inform you about how you can reduce re use and recycle and make your business more profitable in the process. For example many companies are producing far more packaging than necessary so if packaging can be reduced this creates less waste and more profit.
If you want to ascertain some of the things that you could be doing when it comes to recycling then why not carry out a waste audit for your company? Once you have completed a waste audit you will be able to understand some of the changes that you can make to improve your recycling.
