A Visit To Kochi During Festival – Glory Of Vishu
Kochi is the beautiful coastal land of Southern India that has turned to a favorite holiday destination for world tourists over the years. This sea side land is situated on the on the south-west coast of the Indian peninsula of Kerala. This coastal land has been rewarded with names such as “Queen of Arabian Sea” and “Gateway of Kerala” which signifies the connotations of the land perfectly. The anglicized name of this beach town is Cochin and is popularly known by the latter name around the world. However, natives still love to refer their land as Kochi. The festivals of Cochin reflect the rich culture and tradition of Kerala and are celebrated among the natives with great pomp and grandeur and thus serve the tourists a delightful experience.
Onam is the most important of Kochi festivals. This is a harvesting festival celebrated all over Kochi maintain traditional cultural rituals. Other major festivals of Kochi are: Vishu, the Kerala new year celebrated in the mid of April; Cochin Carnival celebrated in the last week of December at Kochi fort; Attachamayam celebrated during the month of August and so on. Along with Kerala culture, Kochi is influenced by the Jewish culture and therefore Jewish festivals are much a part of Kochi festivals as well.
Therefore a visit to Kochi during festival allows tourists to experience the glory of this cultural heritage and harmony.
