Darjeeling is the beautiful Himalayan city of West Bengal which is internationally recognized as one of the most renowned tourist places in the world. A visit to Darjeeling gifts one an experience of walking down the memory lanes of the glorious colonial days. Nestled amidst the snow-capped mountains and large number of tea gardens, Darjeeling stands as a proud beauty reflecting Mother Nature’s charm at its best. The main festivals of Darjeeling are: Maghe Sankranti, Losar, Sri Panchnami, Saraswati Puja, Cho Ngo Chopa, Holi, Id-ul Zuha, Buddha Jayanti, Muharram, Teez, Tihar, Durga Puja and so on. Darjeeling festivals include the blending of many cultures mainly: the Hindu religion, Tibetan rituals, Buddhism and obviously Nepalese rituals.

Maghe Sankranti is considered as the first day of New Year and is celebrated grandly throughout the city by everyone mainly the Nepalese people. Losar is a Tibetan festival beautifully adopted by the Darjeeling people and celebrated every year with utmost respect and merriment. Buddha Jayanti is celebrated by everyone and mainly by the Buddhist monks in the month of April every year. And Saraswati puja, Durga Puja, Teez etc are Hindu festivals that are a part of Darjeeling festivals as much. Thus, festivals of Darjeeling represent the blend of global culture at its best. It stands for the beautiful mixture of various culture and rituals amazingly adopted by the beautiful city. Every festival has its own history and cultural significance which makes a visit to Darjeeling during festival more fruitful and delightful.
