Robotic Debanding - Preventing Work Place Injuries
When it comes to the work place, you can never do enough to ensure the safety of your workers. There are of course several concerns when it comes to injuries in the work place.
The well being of the worker. Any company wants their employees to feel confident that all measures have been taken to make a safe environment, and no employer wants workers hurt on the job. The well being of the worker, therefore, is paramount when it comes to safety considerations.
Costs to the company. Another big incentive for companies when it comes to preventing work place injuries is the costs of worker's insurance from the Worker's Compensation Board and other organizations, including private insurers. Every incident carries the risk of higher premiums; the worse the accident is the higher the cost. And of course every incident will mean that a company has to take steps to prevent the accident from happening again.
When it comes to safety then, there are more than enough reasons both in terms of the bottom line and human concern to pay attention to even the smallest areas of business. But just how small are we talking? Well, ...
... you may not realize it, but even a task that seems as straightforward as removing the straps which hold a load together may cause injury to a worker. Consider the following:
When a strap has been cut, it has the potential to whip back, even when an employee is doing his or her best to hang on to the cut end. The severed strap may hit another employee on the other side of the load, or may swing entirely around to hit the cutter. This poses a significant threat to eyes, face, and even arms and legs.
Repetitive motion injury is always a worry with any task, and debanding a load is no exception.
The way to avoid the risk of these types of injury occurring in your place of work, or company, is to use a robotic debanding system. These systems will severe the straps that hold a package together without the worry of fling backs or the danger of repetitive motion injury.
Some companies may balk at the initial cost of such a piece of machinery, but the truth is that when the larger picture is considered, the use of a robotic debanding machine will mean costs saved in terms of lower insurance and WCB premiums, to say nothing of saved labour costs.
