Earlier, the only people who made necklaces and bracelets by tying beads and charms to pieces of string or leather were considered to be hippies or bohemian. Today it has become very fashionable to create these items and a lot of different people are getting started making fashionable pieces to complement their wardrobes and to make a style statement.

Some beads and charms have meanings that are associated with their sizes, their shapes, their colors, and even the materials that they are created from. People attach the ones that have meanings that are significant in their lives like the ones that represent the mascots of sports teams and the symbols of live, love, and eternity.

Many of these items are placed on pieces of jewelry in color combinations meant to represent the local sports teams in a town, or to represent the colors of national teams that people support. People also attach the items to fashionable pieces that are colored for different causes they support. Many others who want to show their support of people who suffer from epilepsy wear the color purple and people who want to show their support of ...
... people afflicted by breast cancer wear the color pink. It is widely known that the color red is the choice color to show your support of heart diseases that people suffer from and to raise awareness to these diseases.

Different cultures fashion the pieces of wood, stone, and metal into shapes like crosses, hearts, dragonflies, and other creatures. Christians often wear crosses on their necklaces in representation of the body of Christ dying on the cross. These items have heavy religious significance and they are respected not only by the person wearing the cross but by others that see the cross.

You can purchase items in color combinations so that they coordinate with the shoes you are wearing or so they coordinate with the outfit you have chosen. Mostly women are the ones to adorn themselves with fashion jewelry like this in the United States but in many other countries and cultures the men wear as many of the items as adornment as the women.

People love to make statements about who they are and from where they originate using these items. Different cultures of course use different things to make their items from and people widely recognize the items as being from a particular culture or ethnicity. The use of turquoise represents the Native American Indians on most of the pieces of jewelry this stone is used on. You generally only find the stone used in southwestern designs, while ivory is generally used on items from Asian cultures where the elephant is a native animal.

Beautiful pieces of jewelry can be made from these beads and charms. You will find them fashioned from plastics, glass and wood, but you will find just as many that are fashioned from jade, diamonds, rubies, gold, and silver. Each of these types of materials has their own beauty. Of course, prices vary too depending on the material that is used.
