Even on an uneven road you can have a smooth ride, thanks to two devices, the coil spring and the shock absorber. One provides the spring action and the other the damping action. Coil over combines the two in one package. In a coil over the coil spring circles the shock absorber and the both are packed in one unit. To get the best results the coil over has to be properly mounted. One end of the shock is mounted on the axle or suspension and the other on the chassis. There are coilovers in which the ride height as well as stiffness can be adjusted. For some technical reasons a combination of springs is used instead of one long spring. Coilovers have now become a popular aftermarket product.
