A Guide To Tuscany For A Great Holiday
With its renowned history, its endless artistic beauties, its wonderful landscapes and the quality of the produce grown and made, Tuscany is really a great tourist destination in Europe. Tuscany is mostly a hilly region, except for the mountain stretch of the Aqua Alps. The long stretched coastline of Tuscany looks out onto the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Art and culture
History of Tuscany is very ancient, which dates back thousands of years. The first human settlements that we know about were Etruscan, who had built the town of Fiesole in the 1st century B.C.
Being the birthplace of Renaissance, Florence is a true symbol of Tuscany. It is the capital of the region and a city that has been visited by hundreds of tourists, artists and scholars from all over the world such as Keats, Goethe, Lord Byron and many others for centuries.
Siena is another city of Tuscany, which is a pretty city full of art with an important cultural heritage. The city is filled with a medieval atmosphere and setting for the famous Palio race each year. The famous area of Chianti spreads out around Siena. The region also encompasses ...
... other beautiful towns where it seems that God has brought the heaven down and where the time seems to have come to a standstill. These places are San Gimignano, Radda, Montalcino in Chianti, Pienza.
Lucca, surrounded by its huge 16th century, medieval walls and Pisa with its famous leaning tower built at the end of the 12th century are another two of the cities of art in this region.
The land is also famous for numerous exotic Tuscany villas that are speckled everywhere. A stay at one of the villas is a great experience and really marvellous to enjoy the holidays.
Nature and leisure
Tuscany is embedded with beautiful landscapes full of amazing natural reserves, thermal spas and wonderful beaches. Tuscany is rich in fertile and luxuriant land. The hills are outlined with rows and vines, dotted with olive groves and cypress trees, a perfect view that leaves you breathless as you travel across Chianti country. Val d’Orcia and the nearby Val d’Elsa are just pretty that attracts you. The latter is near to Siena, on a road that runs through oak and holm-oak woods.
There is the Maremma area further south in Tuscany. This is a wild and unspoiled area which is well protected by the Nature Reserves that protect the environment. Maremma also has wonderful beach, lapped by the crystal clear, azure seawater along with its nearby islands, Capraria, Elba and il Giglio.
Tuscany also has thermal spas that have been used since ancient times for well-being and cures, which should not be forgotten to visit. Some of the most paramount spas where the waters have beneficial properties are Saturnia, Chianciano, Terme and Pitigliano.
Thus, Tuscany is truly a great destination to visit on a vacation.
