The Paper Denim and Cloth brand wasn't popular at first, but in the period of 2000 - 2003, this company entered the field of high denim fashion under the direction of Scott Morrison. This company suggested a special Japanese denim, of painted styles and specialized rivets. These Jeans got great success, even those costing more than $200 per pair. But after Morrison left the direction of the company in 2004, CEO Dick Gilbert's son Chris took his place and started manufacturing operations not only in USA but also in Mexico and the Dominican Republic with the intention of cutting costs. As a result, the workmanship had decreased as the manufacturing operations moved out of the USA, so brand image also suffered. Only during six years, prices for jeans decreased from $240 to less than $40.

Selling Blue Jeans is a wonderful business. It's important to mention Jordache Jeans which was founded in 1969 by three brothers, Joe, Ralph, and Avi Naccache. At first their business was rather profitable. They sold jeans made by such manufacturers, as Gloria Vanderbilt and Calvin Klein. But during the blackout of 1977, their shop was bankrupt. ...
... But in 1978, the brothers took a 120,000 insurance payment and started another jean manufacturing business.

It was the time when people were tired of the traditional Levi Strauss brand of jeans and were glad to meet jeans by Calvin Klein and Gloria Vanderbilt. The Naccache brothers invested much money into a great advertising campaign. At first, TV networks rejected the sexy advertisements, but local NY TV stations showed them bringing much success to Jordache. Jordache became well-known in the early eighties and started to license their name to other clothing companies earning up to 300 million a year. But after the eighties, the popularity of Jordache declined significantly, as this company was more associated with cheaper clothing.

Unfortunately, in the nineties, the designer jeans had lost their fashion status. Consequently, Levi Strauss had obtained more popularity offering classic blue jeans. Opposite to the tight jeans of the 80's, they sold loose jeans meeting more men's tastes. Nevertheless such loose jeans attracted also a great number of women. In 2000 Jerome Dahan and Michael Glasser entered the arena of designer jeans. Designer Marc Jacobs became famous creating Seven For All Mankind, a new blue jean that was rather tight with the denim fabric thinned and slightly torn in special places to give a softer feel. These jeans got real success, and were serious competitors to similar designer style jeans from, for instance, Citizens of Humanity, Joe Jeans, and True Religion. Seven For All Mankind made Los Angeles the capital of the country of designer jeans.

Today, Seven For All Mankind, Joe Jeans and True Religion continue to offer high quality designer jeans, have successfully survived the world's crisis of 2008-2009. But it's only time that will check the ability of these jean manufacturers to support their fashionable status.
