Explosive growth of database applications, server environments and E-business activities has driven an enormous increase in backup storage demands. The challenge for the data managers is to economically store, archive and secure these massive volumes of information, ensure in-time data availability for business insight and meet compliance requirements.

Sony as always, comes up with a new innovative solution. Sony introduced AIT (advanced intelligent tape) format, which offers the reliability, media performance and scalability to tackle the rigid requirements of data legislations, modern business applications and complex IT infrastructure.

Sony AIT-2 tape format is widely used in medium and small enterprises, departmental servers, branch offices and busy data centers. Sony’s AIT-2 internal drive, part number SDX-500C, achieves extraordinary recording density, with up to 15.6 Mbps compressed transfer speed. Sony AIT-2 tape technology is very compact. Smaller size and higher storage capacity of Sony AIT-2 cartridge make it a smart choice for information intensive enterprises and space-constrained backup environments. ...
... Maximum storage capacity of AIT-2 data tape reaches 130 GB (compressed).

Your investment will be secured as the Sony SDX-500C drive features the ability to deliver superior performance with AIT-2 and AIT-1 data tapes. Both these AIT tapes are write-and-read compatible with Sony SDX-500C tape drive.

Sony AIT-2 tape format delivers unparalleled performance in automated tape libraries, workgroups and desktop workstations. Data searching process and recording efficiency have been further enhanced with the introduction of MIC (memory in cassette) technique. MIC is a small programmable memory that has been embedded in the AIT cartridge. This 64 KB memory chip speeds up the tape loading/unloading time and accelerates the file access time. Thanks to the MIC technology, the file access time of AIT-2 drive has been reduced to an average of 37 seconds, and the media loading time to 10 sec.

Advanced metal evaporated (AME) technology has helped to boost the track density, smoothness and robustness of tape reel. Therefore, the users can reliably use the AIT-2 tape cartridges for high density recordings, data intensive applications and busy data centers.

Sony’s SDX1-CL cleaning cartridge can be used with AIT-3, AIT 2 and AIT 1 tape drives. Thanks to the self cleaning system of Sony AIT-2 drive, the need for periodic cleanings using a cleaning tape cartridge has been significantly reduced.

Sony SDX-500C drive reliably performs the storage & archival operations at 12.0 Mbps (compressed mode), thus empowering the users to backup their data at a faster rate. Low ownership cost of AIT-2 tape format contributes to the increase ROI. Head geometry of the read-write head has been redesigned by Sony to help reduce the tape tension and pressure on the drive head during backup operations. This has enabled the Sony AIT-2 drive to provide a mind-blowing head life of 50,000 hrs. The robust drive head reliably records and archives the data with a remarkable MTBF of 300,000 hours.
