The average height of a runway model is 5’9” or taller, but interestingly enough, tall women can find it very difficult to shop for clothes that they feel good wearing. Clothes designed for your everyday, non-runway model to be too short, leaving tall women feeling frustrated and self-conscious.

Choose the Right Size

The general fit of clothing for tall women is important. Look for garments specifically labeled “tall”. These pieces are designed to fit your body's proportions. Pants should hit the top of your foot and come down about mid-heel, so be sure to take into account the height of the shoes you will be wearing with a particular pair of pants when you purchase them. When shopping for shirts, make sure it falls past the waistline of your pants, and the sleeves should hit your wrist.

Play Up Your Strong Points

If you are looking for clothing that will accentuate your height, go for either long dresses or separates in monochromatic tones. A solid color, particularly in black or dark blue, will flatter your length. Tuck your shirt into your tall womens pants for a seamless, solid line running ...
... the length of your body. If you prefer a pattern, opt for small prints over large, and make sure the pattern runs the length from your shoulders to your ankles. To really draw attention to your height, wear vertical stripes. And when choosing a pair of pants, steer clear of anything with cuffs to avoid a truncated look. Try to avoid belts unless they are absolutely necessary. A belt can break up your look, so if you feel you need a belt, choose something simple and thin with little to no adornment.

On the flip side of the coin, if you would prefer a look to break up the length of your body and make you appear shorter, stick with separates and choose pants and tops in different colors. Leave your shirt untucked, again making sure it falls below your waist and choose cropped pants to give the illusion of shorter legs.

When accessorizing, have fun with it and feel free to go big. Large hoops and long necklaces work very well on tall frames.

As a tall woman, there are plenty of on-trend style options available to you; just remember to seek out garments labeled “tall” on the sizing tag. Whether you are looking to accentuate your height or not, the most important thing is that your Tall Womens apparel properly fits to flatter your frame.
