Kitchen Cabinets: Sorting Through The Options
Now that you have decided to renovate your kitchen, you might have quickly realized that kitchen cabinets are expensive. There are a large amount of choices ranging from your average cabinet on the store shelf to the RTA - ready to assemble cabinets that are becoming more popular. Keep in mind, there is an equal amount of junk cabinets that are over priced. So how do you find a good cabinet at a fair price?
The first choice that many people think is the right choice is the big box retailer. This however can lead to some disappointing results. First, their selection is strategically planned to remain low. Why would a Lowe's or Home Depot keep their selection of cabinets low? The answer is a simple two word answer: special order. These stores offer only a limited selection and then their trained sales people make it sound like they are doing you a favor by helping with this special order. In reality the special order will make you pay any where from 25% to 80% more for an order that does not cost the store much more. So to sum all this up, you're not going to find a large selection of cabinets and after you realize ...
... that you need a special order; you're going to be paying more than you need to be paying.
What about other stores that might be selling cabinets? Like another big box type - Ikea. Be careful, Ikea's cabinets appear to be low in cost, but, two big problems. One is that the cabinets are made of particle board and cardboard. Second, their cabinets are very difficult to assemble.
So what is a good plan to add cabinets to your kitchen? You need a quality wood cabinet, no particle board, with a good price, and a large selection. An RTA cabinet might be the answer. What is an RTA cabinet? Ready To Assemble cabinets are fast becoming a popular choice for the budget minded kitchen renovator. However, be careful these cabinets are not for everyone. If you don't want to assemble anything, then this is not the choice for you. But if you want to save money, have a huge selection to choose from, and get a quality cabinet; then check out an RTA cabinet site. Make sure the cabinets are solid wood and easy to assemble (a flat head screw driver should be the only tool you need). Other than that, start surfing the web and saving money on your kitchen.
