It is not especially difficult but if you are not used to the experience then it can be a little daunting. The main issue is getting familiar with the extra weight and length of the combination of car and trailer and finding a way to control them on the road.

So if this sounds familiar and you are going on a trip, then here are a few things to remember to ensure you have a safe trip in your Nissan and feel a bit more relaxed and confident when towing the trailer, as compiled by www.leasecar.co.uk.

1) Firstly, take a flick through the manual. A trailer should have their own manual or even just a sticker on the side that will tell you what type of vehicle you need in order to tow it safely. You should also check the Nissan manual as you don't want to overload your Nissan's engine.

2) Next, make sure it has a hitch package. A hitch package is a facility to connect the electronics of your trailer or caravan to your car. This type of package is a necessary feature because it powers the rear lights on your trailer or caravan, which lets other drivers know that you are on the road.

3) Make sure you have ...
... a good view from your Nissan. This may involve buying mirror extensions to ensure that you can see the camper and also give you some idea of what other road users are doing, which is especially important with motorcycle users. A serious crash could not only ruin a holiday but could also cause some serious damage, so be careful.

4) Before you set off make sure that you inspect the trailer. This should involve an inspection of where the car attached to the trailer. This should include: checking the pressure of tyres, making sure hitch wiring is long enough for the trailer to make turns, connecting the stabilizer and equalizer, making sure the camper or trailer is level and adjust the trailer tongue so that it is in the right position.

5) Make sure all your belongings are secure even before you start the engine. It is important that you take this precaution as you don't want to arrive and discover that all of your things are broken and all cracked up into a hundred pieces.

6) When going down a hill ensure you don't go fast. Move your gear stick into a lower gear and go down the hill at a snail's pace, this is the only real way to deal with hills and inclines.

7) Be extra careful when you are reversing. In the event of steering then the slightest of adjustments on the steering wheel can damage the caravan or camper and destroy the tow bar, making it unusable.

8) Then, during your drive you need to change your style to avoid tight turns. If it is possible you should change your driving style so that steering adjustments can happen ahead of time, if you do this then it will ensure that you are safer during your driving holiday.

9) Finally, if you have concerns about your Nissan vehicle then it might be a lot safer to lease a more powerful Nissan instead. For example, I recently found a Nissan contract hire deal from www.leasecar.co.uk that was more appropriate for my road trip.

If you stick to this advice then hopefully you really will have the best time as part of your next holiday, regardless of where you are going.
