Ibm Has Ushered In The First Female Head
“Century-old shop” IBM ushered in the first female “head”.
On October 25, U.S. time, IBM announced the nomination of the current senior vice president Virginia M. Rometty and appointed her as the president and CEO of IBM. The current CEO Samuel J. Palmisano will serve as the chairman. And this decision will be effective on January 1 next year.
This is a new female head of Silicon Valley since Whitman became the CEO of Hewlett-Packard. This means that the two IT giants will enter into the flexible war phase.
Unlike the controversy over Whitman’s assuming office, Virginia M. Rometty has worked at IBM for 30 years. She has won the appreciation and trust of Palmisano, and IBM stock almost does not change. This may be the response of the market for this “textbook-style appointment”.
Rometty said that, after installing herself, she would proceed to implement the established strategies and make IBM's 2015 roadmap. She would also continue to increase R & D investment.
Execution helped her win
This seemed to be a normal personnel change. In July, Palmisano was 60 years old, ...
... which is the retirement age established by IBM leaders.
For Rometty, he stressed that the selection had nothing to do with the gender. “She has a remarkable ability to execute. In every leadership position, she strengthens IBM's ability to serve customers,” he commented.
54-year-old Rometty graduated from computer science of Northwestern University and joined IBM. She was promoted all the way from the system engineer to management. She is known for her excellent execution. Foreign media said she had reputation in the technology industry, but little reputation outside of the circle.
In 2002, Rometty caught Palmisano’s attention. At that time IBM’s rival HP tried to purchase PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting business with $ 17 billion, but it was in vain. However, under the guidance of Rometty, IBM eventually made it with a low cost of less than $ 4 billion. This is IBM's second largest acquisition in its history, which now is still called the key to the success of IBM’s strategic transformation.
In 2005, Palmisano promoted Rometty to be senior vice president. During her serving in the department for two years, the profits of the department increased by 42%..
In economic crisis, Palmisano appointed her to be responsible for IBM’s sales, and IBM annual sales was nearly $ 100 billion. Last year, she became be responsible for marketing and business strategy services.
Every time Tory thought of playing online game, he is so excited. He could win almost every match. Do you know why? It is because it is easy for him to get wow gold and RuneScape gold.
