Fibrous tissue is the material our muscles are made of. These muscles work with the skeleton and are throughout your entire body; this is what helps us to move. When you extend your limbs, the muscles stretch so that you can move but when you over extend them they can tear. This may cause you great pain and swelling in the area affected.

Before this happens you may want to seek medical attention right away to get them working properly again.

If you are supposed to be on bed rest, try not to stay on it too long because it may delay your healing. You can only stay on bed rest for so long. You do not want to risk the muscles shutting down completely; you need to get your circulation back in order to fully make a comeback from the sustained injury. Heat helps, but not at first in the case of any type of muscle pull. Once the muscle starts moving properly then use heat to keep them moving.
