Halloween for grown ups is more of a lesson in costume hunting than a holiday filled with invention and sweets. If you can get passed this minor obstacle you will at least be on the way to pretending you're having a happy-go-lucky, carefree evening. Customarily, ladies are going to have a harder time trying to nail down the right costume. For once, however, it might be with good reason--there are thousands of options for women of all shapes, sizes, and personalities. That being said, a majority of female costume choices do fall into two basic categories--sexy costumes and all the others.

I for one, have noticed that the sexy category has grown a lot in recent years, the bonus being that the costumes are becoming more diverse and varied. On the other side of things; the not necessarily sexy section, there is also a great assortment of choices. Television shows and movies can still serve as your inspiration. Classic television shows such as 'I Love Lucy' and 'I Dream of Jeanie' provide great female characters. Period costumes are also a fabulous choice. an outfit inspired by the roaring twenties such as a flapper dress or even a complicated Renaissance era costume can be great fun.The 1950s is another fun time period. Think poodle skirts, saddle shoes, and ponytails. Most of all, try matching your own personality to your costume. There's just not much that completes costumes better than your own playacting.

Naturally there are the customary Halloween costumes such as a ghost, a cat, a witch, etc. These are most likely your first choice for the more conventional Halloween party goer. Almost any costume idea can be altered to have a sleeker, sexier look or you can play it down, and remain modest. Plus size costumes are available in nearly every style now. It is important to pick a costume that you are relaxed and comfortable in, both mentally and physically. It's pretty difficult to pull off your look if you don't feel self-confident in your halloween costume.

After you have made a decision about your halloween costume, don't forget to accessorize with make-up, wig, jewelry, a matching handbag, handcuffs -- anything that is is best for your costume. A great wig can have a serious impact on a woman's costume. When all your accessories and finishing touches are in place, take off to your party ready to amaze the other guests. Have a good time this Halloween and live some of fantasies. Really, that is what halloween is all about.
