Acne is something that almost every person experiences sooner or later and this is why acne myths appear. Although it is more common among teenagers and people in their 20s, anyone can get them, even babies.

Acne caused by dirt

Although this is one of the acne myths you should know that it’s not really the dirt, but the combination of skin scales, bacteria and oil that causes acne. It’s all about clogging the pores. So, as a way to get rid of acne you should be keeping your hands off the face, not to make the pores get clogged.

Stress and acne

Another one of the acne myths is that stress causes them. This one is true, because stress can trigger the production of certain hormones that cause acne. As a way to get rid of acne you should do activities that reduce stress, such as working out. In case you start sweating, the pores will get cleaned out.

Eliminating acne through washing the face

In some way this is also one of the acne myths. It is true that washing the face eliminates dead skin ...
... cells, dirt and oil from the skin, this way helping you to get rid of acne, but you shouldn’t wash your face more than two times a day with a mild cleanser. Too much washing and rubbing will lead to acne again.

Eliminating pimples through squeezing

Although this may look as a good method to get rid of acne, you shouldn’t squeeze them because it could cause redness, wounds and even scars, so this is just a false one of the acne myths.

Acne appears only in case of teenagers

As it has been mentioned before, almost anybody can have acne, at any stage of life. The reason for which teenagers tend to have them is that there are some hormonal changes going on in their body.

Rosacea and chronic acne

A lot of people think that rosacea and acne is one and the same thing. The truth is that they have nothing to do one with the other. Although sometimes they may look the same, rosacea is caused by a completely different disorder.

Using toothpaste as a way to get rid of acne

Toothpaste isn’t something that will help. Instead opt for topical creams like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid and in some cases antibiotics can also help with the inflamed pimples.
