Ferrari 458 Italia Spider Debuts At Frankfurt Auto Show
Ferrari’s acclaimed and exclusive new 8-cylinder, the 458 Spider, was unveiled to the public at the recent 64th International Frankfurt Auto Show. Few days earlier, selected Ferrari clients from all over the World had the opportunity to privately preview the new 458 Spider at the exclusive Ferrari cocktail reception held at the Fiorano track in the Maranello proximity.
The new 458 Italia Spider is powered by Ferrari’s 570 horsepower 4,499 cc V8 engine, which has been named the 2011 Engine of the Year at international levels. The new Ferrari boost the class-leading dual clutch F1 paddle shift transmission and perform a maximum speed of 320 km per hour with 0 to 62 mph acceleration in just less than 3.4 seconds.
The new 458 Spider is the World’s first mid-rear engine berlinetta with a retractable hard top. Entirely in aluminum, the new Ferrari hard top is 25 kilograms lighter than a traditional folding soft-top, quieter and thermally more efficient when raised providing an overall 12% increase in aerodynamic efficiency if compared to the F430 Spider. ... is also best in class for roof opening and closing time. The simple and efficient hard-top occupies a very small space when stored, allowing the car to feature a rear bench for luggage behind the two seats.
458 Spider aluminum chassis features new alloys and castings which were previously adopted in the 458 Italia Coupe’, ensuring the new Spider to obey to the 2020 safety legislation. The new chassis technical solutions ensure same levels of structural rigidity with the roof up or down. The result is a car that is thrilling to drive, which combine superior driving performance with responsiveness and handling.
The new 458 Italia Spider guarantees leading fuel consumption and emissions levels in its class thanks to the optional HELE system (High Emotion Low Emission), the stop & start which reduces emissions by 10% on the urban cycle providing 11.8l/100km fuel consumption with CO2 emissions of 275g / km.
In line with Maranello spider tradition, the new Ferrari 458 Italia Spider guarantees an incredible driving pleasure and sportiness either with the top up or down. The engine soundtrack has been so improved that occupants will be amazed by the top down driving experience.
