Traffic Is The Key To A Successful Site
So you have created your first website, put in a lot of effort and time, spent some money on your domain registration and hosting fees and now you are ready to receive money from sales off your site. This is all nice and dandy the only problem is two months down the line you are still paying and nobody is buying. People are not buying because they do not want to buy from you, the problem is you have very few to no visitors to your site.
Visitors for your site are people searching for information on the internet. To find this information they make use of the search engines by typing in words that are relevant to what they are searching for. Your aim as a webmaster is appear in the search results of the search engine, preferably on page one.
By appearing on the first page of the results your chances become much higher for searchers clicking on your site link to visit your page. A very small percentage of people actually search further than page one so to get the bulk of the traffic you need to be on page one of the search results.
If the purpose of your website is to earn you an income by generating sales ...
... more traffic to your site will relate into more sales. To enable you to achieve this goal you need to know how to improve your search engine ranking for better search engine placement.
There are a few key elements that play a role when improving your search engine ranking to increase online traffic to your site.
The first element you must look at is on page optimization. This includes the keyword density of the content on your page and should be around the three percent mark. If your keyword density is too high the search engines will label it as keyword spamming and your site will just simply get banned.
There are certain tags that the search engines take into consideration when giving your site authority. The title tag in the header section of your site should contain the keyword or keyword phrase you are trying to rank for, the same is applicable to your H1 tag.
If you have images on your page at least one of the alt tags should contain your keywords. Next, make sure your keyword is mentioned in the first paragraph of your content and also appears in the last twenty five words on your site. That is before the closing body tag.
You should bold your keywords at least once in the content of your page, as well as bold the keywords in the last twenty five words on your page.
Your page should then contain at least one link with the keywords you are targeting to another site that has authority for the keyword phrase you are targeting. It is easy to find these sites, just do a search in one of the search engines and the sites appearing in the top ten results are the sites that the search engines are giving the most authority to. These are the basic elements you must consider when optimizing your pages for better search engine ranking and ultimately to increase your online traffic. This alone however will not secure you a top ten position, following this is the hard part of improving search engine ranking.
The last most important step of the process is getting other sites to link to your site giving it authority in the search engines. This is done by other sites linking to your using your keywords as anchor text in the link back to your site. Do this right and you will rank well in the search engines.
