With the 100 watt light bulb already taken off shelves as per EU directives and the 60 watt bulb soon to follow, it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid the draw of energy saving bulbs. Unfortunately, early attempts at creating appealing energy saving light bulbs were less than successful. Flickering lights and a dull, amber glow in place of a solid and bright light meant that the first compact fluorescent light bulbs were far from popular with light bulb buying consumers.

The compact fluorescent light bulb is what most of us consider to be an energy efficient bulb. Fortunately, the days of poor lighting and irregular flashing lights are gone. The modern energy saving bulb provides the same level and consistency of light as a traditional bulb but is considerably more efficient. They use approximately one third of the energy of a standard bulb, last around ten times longer, and offer typical savings of £20 a year per bulb.

Halogen lamps are more energy efficient than incandescent lights and they come in a variety of different shapes, sizes, and models to suit the needs of the individual. They actually offer ...
... more light than standard bulbs because of the heat they produce and the thicker bulb glass means they will last longer too. However, their heat can put some people off using them despite their versatility for use in a wide range of situations and designs.

The LED light is widely considered to be the future of lighting. It is already used regularly in commercial and industrial lighting, and while the bulb is noticeably more expensive than incandescent and even halogen bulbs, the savings and benefits do outweigh the costs.

LED light bulbs will last for four and a half years of constant use which means that you will enjoy more than 10 years of lighting from a single bulb. LED lights are not yet as bright as incandescent bulbs and they do cost more but they are incredibly green. They operate at 90% efficiency compared to the 20% efficiency of standard bulbs and they can be disposed of easily and safely without placing increased burden on landfills and the local environment.

TheLightBulbPeople.co.uk offers an extensive catalogue of high quality light bulbs including compact fluorescent bulbs, halogen and LED lamps. You can save money, enjoy great quality lighting, and do your bit for the environment.
