A Comparison Of Techniques In Antique And Modern Paintings
For the bare walls of a house or office, the best way to make it creative is to paint with colours or fill it with wall hangings or even buy some oil paintings and put them there.
For some people, hanging oil paintings on the walls may appear a routine activity, but hanging an antique oil painting is the new trend adopted by many big corporate. Te Antique paintings reflect the days of the ancient period expressed by the artist through his eyes. The antique pieces of artwork oil paintings are available through any dealers, or art gallery oil paintings and classified advertisements. The worth of an antique work cannot be expressed in terms of money value. They are meant to fascinate the onlookers and feel connected to the ancestors who lived those days in the past. The historical paintings stand as testimony to the facts that have happened and give an insight into the life led by a few generations before us.
The old fashioned oil paintings are usually more than a century old, but the dating and definition of antique art pieces is not without arguments. Some treat the work of 1900 AD and before that as antique pieces ...
... while other schools of thought consider that only those paintings of Greek & Roman Empire should be considered as antique pieces.
The paintings of the yesteryears are usually made of water paints or oil paints. The water paintings fade away and turn green over a period of time, but the oil paintings that began in 15th Century has lesser chances of fading colours. The linseed oil was mixed with paints and pigments were used to colour the paintings by the artists. This was commonly used as paintings accessories. Turpentine was another tool to varnish the oil paintings from fading away. The turpentine coating enabled the paintings to retain its shine in spite of wear and tear due to natural calamities. Brushes were used by antique paintings artists and sometimes fingers were also used to give that extra effect. The modern art paintings are inspired form similar techniques, but the brushes come with different material today.
The techniques of the antique paintings differ greatly from the techniques applied in modern art paintings. The oil paintings take lot more time than the water paints. Any mistake done in applying subsequent coats of oil paints may lead to peeling and cracking of the paint much to the dismay of the oil paintings artists. Varnishing is used today instead of turpentine to preserve the look of the oil paintings.
