The Benefits Of Closed Conveyors
When comparing the design of open and closed conveyors, it becomes apparent that the latter has the most advantages. Today, there are strict rules and regulations in force that govern how various products and materials should be transported within a manufacturing unit, or other locations, for this reason choosing the right type of conveyor is an activity that needs careful analysis.
One of the obvious advantages in choosing a closed conveyor system is that ambient dust cannot develop and cause a hazard to people in proximity. As the bulk material, be it cement, grain or another substance, would be locked up within the closed belt, the health impact is negligible. There are also government regulations which stipulate that dust-free conveyor systems should be used in certain confined spaces.
If the conveyor belt's return strand is closed, this completely removes the problem of a build up of material underneath the belt. When a regular through-type system is in place, there can be an accumulation up of material in the rollers and other parts. Though belt scrapers can be used to minimize this problem, they may quickly ...
... lead to wear.
Another benefit of opting for a closed system is that they can make horizontal and vertical curves with much smaller radii than any open belt designs. This is an important factor when there is only a small amount of space for the system to be used within.
Similarly, a closed conveyor can allow for a steeper angle of inclination than a conventional non-profiled belt. It is often reported that a troughed system can only function at an inclination angle of no more than seventeen degrees, whereas with a self contained conveyor it is possible for a thirty five degree angle to be built into the system. Minimizing the required distance needed to transport bulk materials can help to improve efficiency and productivity.
Choosing the right type of conveyors for your business' needs is not an issue that should be left to junior staff. Though the cost of using an enclosed system is higher than with the more traditional designs, the advantages on offer quickly make up for the initial expense. Before coming to any decision as to which type of set-up to install, it is important to weigh up the pros and cons of each option, placing an emphasis on efficiency, operating expenses, and environmental regulations. Making a well informed choice will help to increase your business' bottom line.
