London: A Child's Dream
London: A Child's Dream
When the summer holidays roll around all the teachers let out a sigh of relief while the parents start to panic about how they're going to fill those dreaded 6 weeks. It's easy enough to fill perhaps one or two weeks with T.V and games, but soon the children get restless and a change of scenery is in desperate need. Where better to take your kids than to perhaps the biggest and fun-packed location in England, the capital city itself, London.
The first idea that springs to mind for a lot of stressed out parents, is how they can keep their children occupied whilst they enjoy themselves and take a break. London offers this in various forms, but perhaps the most innovative is the ChildsPlay sessions. These consist of workshops with children aged between 8-11 who have an interest in drama. Whilst your children are exploring the themes and stories of Shakespeare's plays you can go and enjoy a matinee without worrying about what they're up to. The even bigger advantage to this experience is that it is located in the exquisite Globe Theatre. Built during the Elizabethan era, this is perhaps the ...
... best-know theatre in the world and is definitely an attraction that is worth visiting.
Pretty much all children love animals, and London, despite being a bustling city, is definitely in touch with nature. There are plenty of city farms and aquariums to check out. One of the best is the London Aquarium which houses hundreds of varieties of sea life, from the more standard fish to the dangerous sharks, stingrays, sea scorpions and piranhas and the more exquisitely beautiful species of fish. The good thing about the Aquarium is that its location is perfect for more adult sightseeing too. It is situated directly next to the London Eye and only a 20 minute walk from the Tate Modern, meaning once you've provided the children with some entertainment for the day, you can take advantage of their entertained state and go and enjoy a more cultured experience for yourself.
For those children, and even you big children, who have a love of Doctor Who, there is an excellent experience to be taken advantage of until Wednesday November 30th 2011. This is no ordinary attraction, rather an interactive tour of the Doctor Who universe that invites visitors to take a step through a crack in time and be the Doctor's apprentice. It includes scenes specially filmed by the current Doctor, Matt Smith, as well as special effects and the chance to enter the interior of the Tardis. The exhibition covers the entire history of the show from its inception in 1963 to its more recent time travelling adventures and includes original costumes, props and sets that will fascinate even the most secret of fans.
When visiting London with children you will never be short of things to do. The best thing to consider is how you can keep the kids entertained whilst still making time for you to do what you want to.
For somewhere cheap to stay in London try one of the Kensington Hotels like Kensington West, which is aone of the great Earls Court Hotels.
