Composing a dissertation is slightly different from composing any ordinary assignment. It is one of the most demanding writing tasks that you will ever come across. These researches are usually conducted at a higher educational level and most of the times the completion of a particular investigative study or the allocation of a college degree depends on the quality of the study report you submit, so it is very important that your thesis is thorough and articulate.

The most important part of the dissertation is the dissertation method section.

Let is have a look what it is, why is it important and how to compose it?

What is it?

This part describes the strategies and means you have used for the study process. They are usually a detailed summary of the entire report and are quite significant from the view point of readers but that does not mean that the writer should add in all the unnecessary details as well. The methodology part is always concise and to the point to ...
... give the reader a brief and overall view of the report.

What are some of its basic types?

Selecting the right method for your paper depends on your research objectives and questions. There are mainly two types of dissertation methods that can be used, i.e. the qualitative method and the quantitative method.

Qualitative Methods:

If your research is on a topic that has not been previously undertaken much or if it requires for you to uncover in-depth knowledge and personal opinions, then qualitative research method should be chosen. The data in this type of exploration is usually collected first hand through personal interviews and questionnaires containing open ended questions. For example, if you are trying to get market feedback on a new product then qualitative methods are more suitable for you than quantitative.

Quantitative Methods:

If you are trying to discover a relationship between two or more variables with the help of statistical or mathematical data, then you must select quantitative methodology writing. This type of data is usually collected through close ended questionnaires, governmental statistics, annual reports etc. For example, if you are trying to determine the difference between two drugs then quantitative methods are more appropriate for you than qualitative.

How important is selecting the right dissertation method?

To put it in two words, extremely important. The entire analysis of your investigative objective and hypothesis depends on the methodology you select and since your conclusion and recommendation are also obviously based on your methodology, it is very important that you give a careful thought to selection of the right method. This part also justifies the method chosen and its importance in the study.

What is the right structure?

Follow this basic structure for your investigative methodology and you would not go wrong:

Background Of Study Method:

This part of the methodology gives the introduction and a brief overview of the research procedure. This includes the target audience, their demographics and the variables that will help you in the analysis.

Measurement Tools:

This is the part where you mention the measurement tools that you will be using for your study. You will also provide a justification of your selection to the readers.

Data collection procedure:

Describe how you will be collecting the data for your study. As mentioned above too, this will depend on the objective of your investigation. Some basic types for data collection are through surveys, questionnaires, personal interviews etc.

Data Analysis:

In this part of your dissertation methodology chapter you will be writing about the analysis of the data you have collected. Write briefly how each hypothesis will be tested and concluded.

Hence, for your research methods, the main focus should be on the components that are to be explored. Take each part of the methodology and carefully analyze and compose it for an effective investigative study.
