Before the fierce matches, professional athletes would do some warm-up excises. The warm-up excises often last from ten minutes to tens of minutes. In addition, some professional skiers and cyclist even do the warm-up excises for more than two hours. Generally speaking, warm-up excises can increase the temperature of the muscles and then improve the anaerobic metabolism ability and the potential of the muscles, which can improve the records of the athletes. People have believed in warming up for a long time. However, few people have thought about the best warm-up excises time.

How long should we do warm-up excises before the match?

Tomaras, a scientist coming from Calgary University in Canada, paid much attention on the issue of warming up and questioned the traditional ways of warming up. He thought that excessive warming up might have the opposite functions and be helpless for the improvement of the match performance.

To verifying his thoughts, Tomaras held an experiment. He designed two different warming-up plans, the traditional plan and the simplified plan. The traditional warming up plan included twenty ...
... minutes cycling, which aimed to let the heart rate of the athletes reach 95 percent of the peak value of the heart rate. Then the traditional warming-up plan was followed by a four times sprints with an interval of eight minutes. However, the simplified plan was more relaxing. The later experimenters just needed to finish 15.5 minutes long cycling and a sprint after the cycling. In order to finish the experiment, ten professional cyclists took part in the experiment. After the experiment, all the participants would take part in a Wingate test. Then Tomaras took blood samples from the experimenters and monitored the density of serum lactate.

The experiment result was that the records of the later warming up plan were better than the former test. Therefore, Tomaras advised that the athletes that took part in the anaerobic exercise should not do warming up excises for a long time.

Although the result of this experiment, we cannot sure how long we should do warm-up excises before other kinds of match. Therefore, there may be no the best time for all the kinds of matches. We should do different kinds of warm-up excises before the different kinds of match.
