My hometown is located in mountain area. The village is surrounded by the stone. Almost all the facilities in the village are the stones. For example, the stone houses, stone walls, stone bridges and stone roads, even the alleys are stones. So the stonemasons are very popular in my hometown at that time.
The first thing to the stonemason is to chisel the stone. The quarry is not far away the village. When I was very young, my fellows and I always played in quarry. There is a huge pit; I didn't know which year has begun to dig. The stonemasons start to work in the morning, every morning I pass through that place; I can hear the noise when they chisel the stone.
In my impression, chiseling stones which is need people to hard work. It is better in the spring and autumn. At summer and winter, the stonemasons need to endure hardships. Especially in the summer, stonemasons stay in the quarries which there are no wind and shady place. People stand in the sun directly; it is very hot to move the stones. They bring the food and water to the quarry, sometimes they return back home to have a meal. All of them have a good ...
... appetite.
The second thing is to engrave the stones. It is very convenient to take the stones because they are around us. There are many mountains in my hometown, so the stones are. The stonemason have perfect skills, they can engrave the stones to be desks and chairs.
My house has a long history, it made up of all the stones, even the roof. I have to say it is really sturdy in the strong wind and rain. The bridges are near the beginning of the village, it has become a nice scenery line in the hometown. When I pass through, I cannot control myself to count the stone lions on the bridge. These lions were engraved by a young stonemason at fifty years ago. Now the man is my grandpa. He always tells me that he is very pride of his job. The job is not only gives him the confidence but also help him to support a family in hard time.
With the development of the society, the young man choice to go out the mountain to the find a job in the city. There are fewer stonemasons in the village now, but their feature in my memory will never fade.
