On July 8 to 10, the first-ever Ferrari Challenge street race took place in Toronto, Canada. The Ferrari Challenge was part of the Indy Toronto Event: Toronto has been hosting this spectacular event for the past 25 years but it is the very first time the Ferrari Challenge participated. Ferrari Challenge drivers experienced a new kind of challenge on the concrete lined temporary circuit along the Lake Ontario shores. Since the track is only set up temporarily, the Ferrari Challenge drivers do not have any chance to practice until the weekend of the race.The Ferrari Challenge weekend in Toronto was remarkable for Ferrari Beverly Hills | Silicon Valley Team: Harry Cheung of Ferrari Silicon Valley dominated, by winning two races, taking pole position during qualifying and having the fastest lap of the weekend. On Saturday morning, during the 458 qualifying session, Harry Cheung stormed to the top with a lap time of 1:14.337 but he got bumped off by Cooper MacNeil (Ferrari of Houston), about half way through qualifying. MacNeil’s victory was short lived as Mark McKenzie, his teammate from Ferrari of Houston, went faster (1:13.792). ...
... Almost at the end of the qualifying session, Cheung pushed his performance into high gear and eclipsed everybody's lap time by almost a full second. Harry Cheung’s lap time of 1:12.863 was the fast lap of the entire weekend. The first race followed on Saturday afternoon where Harry Cheung confirmed his pole position for the F458 category, followed by McNeil and McKenzie. The finishing positions from Saturday set the starting grid for the race on Sunday. Harry Cheung found himself in pole position for the second time in the same weekend. After an extended yellow period caused by Hinestrosa, the front runner in the F430 race, MacNeil mounted a furious attack on Harry Cheung, contesting each corner. Harry Cheung ended the race victorious, MacNeil finished second followed by John Farano (Algar Ferrari), who captured the final podium spot in his own home town. Giacomo Mattioli, Ferrari Beverly Hills | Silicon Valley Principal, attended the race and proudly observed that these results of the Ferrari Challenge race in Toronto confirm the promise that Harry Cheung has been showing for the entire season. Harry Cheung joined the Ferrari Challenge Series with Ferrari Beverly Hills | Silicon Valley in 2009 and in only two years he developed incredible racing skills. Mr. Mattioli looks forward to an incredible second half of the 2011 Ferrari Challenge Season: it is evidentthat, from the current scoring, both the F458 and F430 championships will be hotly contested.
