Invercargill is the capital of Southland in New Zealand. Also at low tide, you can explore the series of 5 interconnecting Caves known as Cathedral Caves at Waipati Beach. These caves can reach 20m in height. You can only reach them within 2 hours of low tide and make sure that you bring a flash light. Blue penguins and fur seals are sometimes seen in the deep recesses of the caves. The Maclean Falls River walk is worth a visit as it follows the Tautuku river valley to the stunning Maclean Falls. Fantails will accompany you and you will be serenaded by bellbirds and tuis. A trip to Nugget Bay Lighthouse and nearby Cannibal Bay is interesting and an opportunity to see fur seals and sea lions.

It will be bliss to sample a gourmet Bluff oysters and visit the Tiwai Point Aluminum Smelter on a visit to Bluff. Stewart Island is just an hour away by ferry from Bluff. Here you can enjoy the beautiful walks or visit Ulva Island home to many rare native birds.

Invercargill city center offers relaxed retail shopping and many restaurants, bars and cafes for dining out.
