Many people believe that gangs and Hip Hop music go hand in hand with each other. Gang activity is usually blamed on the influence that Rap music has on the urban community. A lot of people even believe that all the popular Hip Hop artists are, or were, in a gang. While Hip Hop lyrics and gang activity have been linked together over the years, they are not as closely related as some may think. Some of the most popular artists come out and state what exact gang they represent, like The Game and Snoop Dogg.

Many of the violent acts performed in the inner city are somehow linked to street gangs. Gangs usually exist in big cities and a large percentage of gang members are members of minorities in America. The majority of popular Rap musicians are of a minority background. Gang members dress in the same fashion as many of the prolific Hip Hop musicians. Rap music has been known to contain violent lyrics related to gang activity. Does this mean that Hip Hop music and gangs are directly related?

Gangs have been established many times before anybody ever thought of Hip Hop. Why haven't people realized this fact? Some people ...
... will argue that Rap music have evolved gangs into something even more violent than before. However, I do not believe that the music created by popular artists influences any gang activity. However, I believe that gang activity has an influence on many Hip Hop artists.

A lot of the mainstream artists lived in the ghettos as children. Most of their lives have been influenced by street gangs in some way or another. Emcees have the tendency to portray their life story on an instrumental. If they grew up watching violence, or even participating in the violence, they will portray it through their music.

People want something to blame violent acts on, so they always turn to Rap music. The truth is that Rap music doesn't make anybody do anything, especially violent things. Lyrics can get violent but it is always just an expression of emotion. Music shouldn't be the constant scapegoat when violence is committed. Call Of Duty displays war scenes and violent acts in the video games. So, why isn't Call of Duty blamed for every war? Hopefully, that analogy opened your eyes and made you realize that Rap music gets a bad wrap for no reason.
