Rap music has always been the best selling music genre since its creation. However, things have drastically changed and Hip Hop sales are always declining. Now it isn't as common to see an overall #1 Hip Hop album on the charts. There is a lot of speculation for the reason that this is consistently happening. The internet is only one of the main reasons and it isn't fully responsible. This article will discuss each of the important reasons that sales are declining in this great music genre.

The actual content of Hip Hop music is not as good as it once was. There is little experimentation going on right now in the Hip Hop world. Up until 2000, Hip Hop was at the top and the music quality was pristine. Today, Hip Hop has lost its innovation and in turn, lost many dedicated fans. Is this totally the fault of the rap artists? Has Rap run out of significant topics to include in new tracks? Now, almost every popular artist and song is just generic. This has created less of a demand for new Rap albums.

The internet has basically killed Rap album sales. The internet has produced a huge amount of illegal acquisition of ...
... Hip Hop music. Most people will agree that the internet is the main reason for a sales decline. Why pay when you can get it free? Piracy is a huge problem to music sales, not just the Rap genre.

What effect does this all have on Hip Hop music? Record labels that used to be at the top are now clinging to their last hopes. Artists are producing more music faster and the quality of the content is becoming lower. Upcoming artists don't do very well unless they follow whoever is popular at the moment. The golden age of Rap doesn't even seem to relate to the new age of music. Fans don't want to pay for the same topics covered by other artists so they get the music for free instead. The cycle keeps repeating and the music world gets even lower.

So what can be done to stop this from continuing? Piracy may be hindered but it can't be stopped. If the true artists start selling major units again, more artists will be inclined to produce good music again. We may even be able to create the 2nd golden age. Hopefully, something can be done before Rap is dead altogether.
