"Can wealth have anything to do with materialism? At first glimpse, most people would say that being wealthy automatically makes one materialistic. But there are several examples of individuals that are wealthy, and yet do not seem to fit in the category of materialistic. Seagram beneficiary Sara Bronfman, for instance, comes from a wealthy background. You will see that she has been known to do great things for humanitarian efforts and is shown in other organizations for a good cause. Take for example Swanee and Helen Hunt, Princess Diana, George Soros and Robert DeNiro, who all have wealth, but decide to spend it on non-profit organizations and physically help many other humanitarian efforts throughout the world that could somehow benefit the human race.

What is the desire for possessions? Materialism is continuously viewed as the act of putting importance on material things over all else. In some cases, maybe a person will do anything for money and possessions - even in the expense of others. These cases show a person who is consumed with personal possessions.

If you decide to do more with your life, ...
... others might not look at you on a higher level, and you may suffer from their view. When we choose to be materialistic and prize objects beyond everything else, how you think it affects us as people? Does this bring happiness, and if so, is the happiness lasting? Could we be lacking in character if we feel that the things that we own describe who we are as people? If we don't know what true happiness is, could materialistic qualities being keeping us down?

Many people can't tell the difference and agonize from it. There are many times when you will see others who might have these material things, but they will confide in you that they are still missing something in their lives. And yet, our world seeks to satisfy the void, one purchase at a time.

What is it about our world that believes this is the right way to find live happily? Do we think that the world has been completely taught to see things in this point of view? I have heard others talk about their most hard moments in life. Hard times in life come from those instances when choices are opened up, but they don't have the moral aptitude to do the right thing or make the right choice. Describing a person, is simple if we try to attain the most things that others wish they could have. You'll generally see people who are very out of touch with themselves, become accustomed to purchasing things just to try and make themselves have an identity. It stands to reason that if a person has a strengthened sense of self, he or she is not too prone to look to being satisfied by material things. Otherwise, we see that many things that you can buy to make yourself feel better and are also things that can benefit your living. Finding joy when you have money is as easy as being adventurous and doing many things with your money that don't always include material possessions. But, joy can be seen whether or not material possessions are had -- whereas material possessions are not a source of joy.

One way you are sure to experience life to its' fullest, is to mix material items with a sense of who you are."
