Do you have school-age children from elementary and high school levels? Then you have probably realized by now thatpocket folders are always a part of their school work, right? These are always on your list of must-haves as you do your back-to-school shopping weeks before the school year starts. But you know what? You can actually do your own pocket folder printing right in your own living room or crafts room. You can even do it with your child and use the activity as a bonding moment for you before you classes start and you seldom see each other.

You can easily make pocket folders using those thick, heavy duty construction paper that comes in a variety of colors. The endeavor doesn’t need to take up all day. But you can spend a couple of hours doing this if you want to embellish your folders for your child. Then it will be another arts and crafts fun. These homemade folders could save you a lot of money, too.

Here’s what you should do:

1. Get a sheet of construction paper with the size of 20” x 18”. Lay it flat on the table vertically in front of you.

2. Using a ruler, measure 4 inches ...
... up from the bottom and then mark it. Measure 2 inches from the bottom of the paper and mark it again. Apply paste or glue on the lower portion of the paper. Fold it on the 4-inch mark, reducing the size of the paper to 16” x 18”. Press down the paper to seal. Let it dry. Repeat with other sheets.

3. Fold the paper lengthwise in the middle just to make a crease. Open it up and lay it flat on the table.

4. Cut a strip of paper from the bottom of the paper, which is centered on the crease. The strip should be about an inch wide and four inches long.

5. Get the bottom 4 inches of the paper and fold them upward at the seam. The paper now is already 12” x 18” in size.

6. Finally, fold in the 1/2-inch of paper on the left and right side and glue it to close. Fold the paper again where the crease is and the folder is done.

7. You can make undecorated folders like these for your child’s projects. But if they are only going to use it for their files, you can embellish them using those decorative items sold in scrapbooking or craft shops. And don’t forget to put your child’s identification on the folder so that in case the folder is misplaced, it can easily be returned to him or her. You can write the information or print it to make it look nice and neat.

These pocket folders can easily be done at home. You do not only get to save money, you get to spend time with your child. Additionally, you can also do pocket folder printing by looking for designs on the net and printing on one side of the paper before folding and gluing them. You can also make your own design using your child’s picture or the picture of their favorite item or pet. You can do anything and your imagination is the limit in terms of making the design for your folders.
