Want an ‘experience honeymoon’!? Looking for a ‘dream’ honeymoon destination!? Get it right with a good Kerala Honeymoon. As the saying goes ‘good beginning means work is half done’. For those starting a new phase of life, it is important to know each other before you get forward and the best way to know each other is to start off with a romantic honeymoon. Looking for beaches to have a long walk with your spouse holding your hand, want to take a nap on her lap in a misty mountain valley, want to row a boat with her in a small canopy, this and lot more is what you have with a Kerala honeymoon trip.
What is important is you plan your Kerala honeymoon packages with the right set of ingredients. Select the destinations you wish to spend your holiday, the right mix of travel and stay is what is recommended. Spread between the Western Ghats on the East and the Arabian sea on the West, Kerala is the most picturesque destination in India. It would need a good 10 days to visit all the best known destinations but if you don’t have the luxury of time; ...
... do spend at least 5-6 days to cover the beautiful backwaters, the valleys in the Ghats and the beaches in Kerala.
For those travelling your trip from Bangalore or Goa you have the chance to travel down from the north all the way to the southern tip of Kanyakumari. For those from Mysore/Bangalore can come down to Wayanad – the rainforests here is known for the fauna and flora, wildlife reserve of the region is home to some of the most endangered species. Wayanad also offers ample opportunity for trekking and adventure. Coming down from Mangalore you visit Bekal fort, one of the oldest forts of India. The place was known better for the songs in the movie ‘Bombay’!.
The travel down south is all along the virgin coastal beach of Kerala. Around 3-4 hours travel takes you to Cochin. The commercial capital of Kerala, it is also home to one of the oldest Jewish settlement in India. It is located in Fort Cochin – a boat ride from main land Cochin. You have more in store for your Kerala Honeymoon; one hour from Cochin is Alleppey – the home for hundreds of houseboats floating in the ripples of Kerala’s most famous backwaters. A ride across the backwaters would definitely be the most soothing experience in your Kerala honeymoon trip; the journey is normally complemented with in house food – authentic Kerala food, adding a mouth watering experience to your joyful ride. Besides the houseboat you also have numerous resorts along the lake shore, it is a perfect place to spend a weekend.
Those of you who wish to have a chilled beer or a smooth whisky for your holiday, Kerala has state run ‘Beverage Cooperation’ (liquor outlets) from where you can choose from a wide range of drinks. A word of caution is hotels/resorts are normally expensive for liquor and those looking for some economic drinking, better have your own stock and barrel!
Your Kerala honeymoon package would not be over without having a feel some Kerala art and culture. ‘Kathakali’ and ‘Chakkiyarkkoothu’ are two forms of dances that have its roots in Kerala. The former is about narration of stories from the Mahabaratha and Ramayana while the later takes a dig at contemporary issues and highlights pitfalls in society. Your Kerala honeymoon package must encompass at least one of this to make yours a complete trip.
Kerala also has its own architecture when it comes to mosques, temples and churches. Temples in Kerala normally have a flat architecture unlike towering temples on Tamil Nadu and other states in the south. Churches here have borrowed the traditions from their Hindu brothers with customs like ‘minnu kettu’ (wedding), ‘pallu kachu’ (house warming) and ‘kodimaram’ (tall flag hoisting pillars). Mosques too have a relative similarity with the two of the formers in their architecture; nevertheless, they follow all traditional customs in line with the traditional Islamic practices.
