Using Treats While Training American Bulldogs
American bulldogs are well known for their protective and courageous trait and their strength. However, these dogs can also be wonderful pets for families. Although many people think otherwise, training these dogs can be a very rewarding experience when done correctly and handled well.
Training Your Dog
Training American bulldogs will help their development and will help you strengthen the bond with him/her. It is important to remember that training should begin at a very early age. If they begin their training regimen as puppies they will not show destructive traits such as chewing, barking and aggression. However, before you begin training it is also necessary to learn about their unique traits. Because of their size, it is necessary for them to have enough space to move about. Since these dogs are quite playful they may get a little rough sometimes but it is not aggression. For safety, do not let small children around your dog until it has undergone complete training. Also, because these dogs are very protective of the owner, you will have to socialize them well at an early age so they do not attack other ...
... people.
Using Positive Reinforcement
Training American bulldogs can be a challenge for those who have never had a dog before. Therefore most professionals do not recommend inexperienced people to bring home a puppy. With that said, one of the biggest tools that you can use to train your dog is positive reinforcement by rewarding your dog with treats when they display good behavior. The US Humane Society said that when training your dog with praise and treats you should use encouraging, praising words. Dogs don’t really care much about materialistic things. They only care about getting your praise and food. For this reason, the best motivation for your dog can be dog treats and food.
When you train your dog by using treats, the right timing makes a lot of difference. You should provide a treat to your dog immediately once he displays any good behavior. Do not wait for too long since your dog would otherwise not be able to associate good behavior with the treat. Always be consistent with the treat while you train your dog. Do not give in if he takes an easy way out to get that treat. Teaching good behavior can be a little difficult but it does pay off very well in the end. With consistency and a little patience, it should not be too difficult to teach them to be obedient and controlled. Using treats is therefore a very good tool for training American bulldogs.
