Stacelita had already proven herself to be a Group 1 winner in Europe, and was coming into the Beverly D. off a close third against males in the Grade 1 United Nations at Monmouth. After stalking the pace while tucked down at the rail, she got the perfect trip and went on to take the Grade 1, $750,000 Beverly D. at Arlington Park.
Winning jockey Ramon Dominquez said that he had the perfect trip, with his mount sitting nice and relaxed right off the frontrunner. As they turned for home, he found room down at the rail and gave his mount the cue to go and she did.
The pace was set by Dubawi Heights, who was coming off a win in the Grade 1 Gamely and off four consecutive wins, but she was outkicked at the top of the stretch by the winner and could never catch up with her, though she fought on gamely and held second over the South African mare River Jetez. Stacelita won by 1 ¼ lengths in a time of 1:57.57 over a yielding turf course.
Finishing fourth was Fantasia, then Upperline, Eclaire de Lune, Never Retreat, Pachattack, Cheetah, Check the Label, and lastly Romin Robin.
