How The New Lg Optimus 3d Shapes Up Against The Samsung Galaxy 3d
The LG Optimus 3D was the first mobile handset introduced into the market with 3D facilities. Since its release we have seen the number of handsets boasting this technology slowly but steadily increasing. The latest model due to hit the shelves is the Galaxy 3D from Samsung, manufacturers of the award winning Galaxy S2. So is the Samsung worth holding on for or does the LG still remain one of the very best phones of its kind?
It seems that despite being a few months younger than the LG the Samsung does not really boast any real advantages when it comes to screen performance. The Optimus 3D offers a high quality 4.3 inch display which offers a good standard of image thanks to a high 480 x 800 resolution. The capacitive touchscreen uses a parralax barrier to enable users to view material in 3D. This is a screen which is placed in front of the phones display which comprises of a series of precisely placed slits. Each set of slits enables a different eye to see a different set of pixels which leaves the brain to merge these two differing images and come up with a 3D result. The technology works surprisingly well and ...
... has also been used on other devices such as the Nintendo 3DS. It looks as though the Galaxy 3D is going to match what LG offer in this area but not exceed it meaning screen size and resolution remain the same. The result of this is that there is very little to choose between the two models in terms of quality.
One area where the LG Optimus 3D does come out on top is when we look at the design of the two phones. LG have established a tradition for producing great looking mobiles and this one is no exception. In an effort to make the phone feel like a more premium device the manufacturers have opted to use high quality metals in much of the phones construction rather than plastic. The result does mean that the phone is slightly weighty at 168 grammes but this adds to the overall premium feel. Samsung have approached this area from a different angle and decided to rely upon a plastic back panel which makes the handset incredibly lightweight but also less robust. The overall weight of the Samsung is attractive but if we had to choose one we would opt for the sturdy and premium feeling LG model every time.
The Samsung Galaxy 3D will undoubtedly be a hit with consumers however there is still plenty of life left in the LG Optimus 3D and it makes a very good account of itself in this comparison.
The LG Optimus 3D and the HTC Evo 3D are available now.
